How we work these numbers out

What our figures rest on, how current they are, and what they can't tell you.

Figures last checked 22 September 2026

Where the savings figures come from

Our estimates are based on modelling by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis, an independent research organisation. The modelling compares typical household types on their current plan against the offers available to them.

We don't do our own bill modelling, and we don't have access to your actual usage data.

What our check can and can't do

The check asks a small number of questions and places your household in a broad group. It gives you a direction — better off, about the same, or worse off — not a dollar figure for your bill.

That's a deliberate choice. A precise number that turns out wrong on your actual bill is worse than an honest range, and we'd rather point you at the exact comparison than guess at it.

What the modelling averages over

The figures are averaged across the distribution networks in each city. Two households in different parts of the same city can be on different network charges, and the modelling doesn't separate them.

That's why we ask which state or region you're in and nothing more precise. Asking for your postcode would suggest a level of accuracy the underlying research can't support.

What we collect

The check doesn't ask for your name, your address, your postcode or your phone number. We store your answers without anything that identifies you, so we can report on how the offer is working.

If you give us an email address, that's the only identifying thing we hold, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.

When this was last checked

The date at the top of this page is when we last checked these figures against their sources. Electricity prices change, and a figure that was right in July may not be right in March.

If something here is out of date or wrong, email [email protected] and we'll fix it.
